A WORD TO FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN UNDER 8 YRS OF AGE
Because we understand how difficult it is to watch toddlers and small children under 8 yrs our policy is that generally we prefer adoptive families to check with us before applying because we prefer that children be at least 8 years of age. Greyhounds are very special and sweet natured dogs, but the fact remains they are still ANIMALS and from time to time can be unpredictable. If startled or hurt by a falling child or quick movement it is possible for them to become distressed and lash out. This is true of ANY breed. If you have younger children, please contact GG to discuss your specific situation. There have been times, after conducting a thorough homevisit with all family members, that we all feel comfortable moving forward with the adoption of a greyhound. But a conversation prior to the homevisit as well as a thorough homevisit need to take place

A Word to Cat Owners Who Wish to Adopt a Greyhound…
Families who own cats, and wish to adopt greyhounds, must understand that there are never any guarantees regarding the cat's future safety, regardless of how disinterested the greyhound seems to be. We cannot, and will not, promise that the greyhound will never chase or injure the cat. We do our best to determine the greyhound's level of interest, but several thousand years of genetic programming is hard to overcome, and you must understand that something as small as a bird flying by the window or a squirrel romping in your yard could be a trigger. The greyhound should always be supervised when interacting with small animals and should never be left alone or unsupervised with small animals. Taking 30 seconds to put kitty in a closed bedroom or crating your greyhound before leaving the room will help insure a safe, harmonious environment for everyone.

A word to families WITHOUT fences* who wish to adopt a Greyhound…
When adopting a Greyhound from Grateful Greyhounds, fencing is NOT mandatory, HOWEVER, potential adopters must thoroughly understand that in inclement weather, you will need to be willing and able to stay outside with your Greyhound LONG ENOUGH for the dog to do his/her business . You MUST walk the dog, as simply standing there will not stimulate the dog. Greyhounds are NOT afraid of snow, and they WILL do their business but you have to walk with them and be patient and stay outside with them long enough for them to evacuate their bowels. This can take anywhere from two (2) to thirty (30) minutes. It takes some time to establish a routine so patience is essential. Once the routine is established, things will go more quickly.

Tom S Postulator is a very handsome and dynamic black male hound born in November of 2005. This guy is so handsome, does great in the crate and loves getting attention. He is being checked out with cats and small dogs. Check back for updates.

Squeezed is a vavacious youngster. She is a pretty red/fawn female born in May of 2007. She loves life and really doesn't know what a bad day is. She is learning house rules like not stealing from the counter! Terrific dog, great for an active family looking for a fun loving girl. She is cat safe and is in foster care learning how to live with cats and other greyhounds.

This is Ja's Sailfish, a handsome white w/brindle male hound born in April of 2006. Sailfish is a big mush, loves attention and is a mellow guy. He suffered a leg break and is in a cast, not yet ready to be adopted. Sailfish is new to us, as we learn more about him we will update his bio.

Meet June (aka Craigie Hy June), a fun loving, happy go lucky female hound born in March of 2006. June has the most beautiful, soft brindle and white coat. She loves attention and gets along nicely with the other greyhounds. She has not been tested with cats or small animals yet, so please check back for updates.

Fuzz Face major aka Major is a big, happy, playful guy who enjoys the comapany of other hounds he has met so far on his journey to NY. He is a handsome, brindle boy born in December of 2005. He recently made his way to us from WV and is looking forward to retirement here in NY. This hound is a fun dog, great for the first time adopter or someone who wants to add a happy hound to their pack.

This little sweetie is Amandas Late, a brindle girl born in September of 2005. She is such a love, will bury her face in your chest for attention. Amanda is not good with cats but gets along well with other greyhounds. She made ehr way to NY from Florida and is hoping to "Paint the Town" with a forever family here in the tri-state area.

This is Wiki Shany Shan, a spunky, playful girl that was retired because she jumped the rail 3 times in a race and lived to tell the story!! She is lucky to be alive. This white and brindle beauty was born in March of 2007 and in her opinion, life is one big adventure after another. Nothing gets this girl down! Wiki came to us from florida. She is doing well in foster care with the other greyhounds but does not get along with cats. She is hoping for a home where the humans will absolutely adore...after all, everyone else does!!

VERY SPECIAL BROOD MAMA
Thanks Nanc aka Nancy is super special to us. She is a beautiful red brindle girl born in May of 1999. She raced then became a brood mom producing 32 pups! She is so sweet and gentle, does not want to bother anyone. She will stand quietly waiting for attention, she enjoys the peace and quiet of her foster home and seems to like her foster brothers and sister. This girl deserves the most pampered life someone can give her...is that someone you?

Husker Chataqua aka Hook is an awesome brindle guy born in October 2005. He is a big mush and loves to bury his head in your chest and snuggle in. He wags his tail and makes eye contact as if he is checking you out, he knows if you are a dog person, he can read that. He is being tested with cats so please check back for updates. Hook came to GG from florida and is hoping for a home to call his own.

Meet Stockton, a beautiful red boy born in September of 2006. Stocky Stockton is a bulky, fun loving guy. He is all boy, no mistaking him for a girl. He is lraning not to pull on the lead and really enjoys getting attention from his foster family. Stockton just came to GG from florida and is very excited to see some snow! No cats for this guy, but he got along nicely with the other greyhounds. He has not met small dogs yet, check back for updates.

Magnum is a playful white and fawn male born in June of 2004. He raced at Rayhnam Track in MA until it closed last month. He is a very sweet hound who enjoyed the company of the other greyhounds. He is not good with cats. He needs to be checked out with small dogs so please check back for updates. Magnum is so handsome, just look at that face!

Camp is a friendly, outgoing fawn female hoping to find a home to call her own. She is strong minded and loves to play with toys and run in the backyard. She is not good with cats or small dogs.

Julie is a pretty fawn female born in July of 2002. She is fiesty and playful, and would do great in a home that is active. No cats or small dogs for Julie, but she gets along nicely with other greyhounds.

Hevener Hepburn aka "Elsie" is a beautiful red fawn female greyhound. She was in a home for several years but was returned due to family illness. Elsie is a terrific hound. She is great with other larger dogs but not good with cats or small dogs. She loves attention, is confident and enjoys going for walks. Elsie would be a great addition to just about any home...perhaps yours?

This delightful, little lady is Cimarron. She is a beautiful black female born in April of 2005. She is a playful, friendly, loving hound that enjoys the company of other greyhounds or larger dogs. She is not good with cats or small dogs. Cimarron is a spitfire and will be an awesome hound for some lucky family.

Abita Pageant aka Pagie is a pretty black female greyhound. She was born July of 2005 and recently came to us from Rayhnam, MA. Pagie is a shy girl who would do best in a quiet home. Although she is shy, she does warm up and absolutely wants to trust and be loved. She loves the other greyhounds in her foster home and is doing great with the housebreaking. She has not yet been tested with cats, check back for updates.

Ishu is a sweet, loving red female hound born in September of 2006. She is so cute, this little girl won't be around for long. She is doing quite well in foster care and learning the rules of the house. She is being tested with cats. Check back later for updates on Ishu.

Salt-n-Pepa is a handsome blue brindle male born in March of 2007.  He is a friendly guy recently made his way here from Alabama.  He loves attention and is looking to buddy up and get some loving from those closest to him.  Pepa has beautiful eyes, but you can just tell he is looking to get into a little trouble...like stealing that sandwich off the counter kind of trouble!  Pepa is not good with small animals or cats, but loves people.  Pepa is looking to discover all NY has to offer, he plans on staying here for good as he has reviewed the GG-retirement plan and believes it's the best around.

Roger is a very sweet, black, male greyhound born in February of 2006. He is a small guy, and quite handsome. He recently arrived to GG from Florida. He went to his first meet-n-greet recently and was a big hit. He did great. He is learning about house rules and seems to be doing just fine.
